Fort Travis Seashore Park History

This historic site was named in honor of Colonel William Barret Travis, a famous defender and hero of the Alamo. The fort played an important role in the defense of the United States during both World War I and World War II. During World War I, Fort Travis was used as a training facility for soldiers before they were sent overseas. In World War II, the fort was heavily fortified with anti-aircraft guns and was used to monitor and protect the Gulf Coast. After the wars, the fort was decommissioned and eventually became a park.
