we were here the last weekend in June, we had - word to the wise, if you dont rent BOTH HOUSES AND DONT KNOW WHO YOU WILL BE NEIGHBORING dont rent this place. Our neighbors were loud and messy and eventually were evicte, but not until they pretty much had ruined our trip. If we ever go back it wont be to this particular house. I do think it would be great for a larger group renting both houses. Not a bad place at all just bring your own frying pan, there was one small one was it for cooking! Also there are not any chairs out on the deck for sitting to enjoying the beachview which is awsome. Also if you want to grill bring your own there isn't one there. the beds are in their on room . Two double beds in a separate sleeping quarters. we loved this house and we are pretty picky. It was clean and a perfect location. The kids could stay on the beach in front of the house all day and we could go back and forth to get lunch and go to the bathroom. Our family of six stayed here for a week this June and it was really NICE! It was more like a luxury hotel than a "cabin." The online pictures don't do it justice at all. Lucille enjoyed the jacuzzi in the master bath. It was so nice to have a bath for each bedroom, plus two half baths and an outside shower. Everyone enjoyed the downstairs patio with sink, bar, grill, chairs, stereo, and screened-in, safe surroundings. The stairs are a little unusual but I loved the rope handles on the railing. We just put the 20-somethings upstairs. The view from the cupola is not to be missed. The upstairs deck with its set-back 3/4 enclosed portion was great during the brief squall. Lovely cable TVs in every room but we were there to watch the water! We plan to definitely rent it again. read more ...

The "weeds" on the sand dunes are very necessary. It helps to preserve the sand dunes which, protect the peninsula from storms. It is against the law to remove or interfere with it.  read more ...

My family and I have rented this cabin for the past two years, with the third coming up next week! I cannot say enough about this rental!

It has the capability to comfortably sleep six adults and four children (that was our situation, anyway). The pirate ship mentioned previously was a ton of fun for the kids, and even had a small treasure chest in it last time we were there!

Comments concerning the prickly pears are also accurate, however. The kids could not walk to the beach without at least sandals, but the amount of space alone made up for that one tiny inconvenience.

All in all, my family and I had a great time. Can't wait to be back again! read more ...

This was a great house it had the best beds, Really nice view and brand new washer and dryer and flat screen TV. There were only a few problems with this house the chairs in den are broken and in the bedroom the dresser was unstable and dangerous for my kids to open for fear they might tip it over on them. The cabin was very nice .we stayed the week from 6-20 til 6-26 .didnt like the fact that the only shower was down stairs...the ac did not cool the cabin off during the day ...when your out on the beach all day you would like to come in and get some cool relief from the sun ...it didnt cool off til late at night ..if you tried to cook in the cabin it heated it up too.the screen door would not shut properly that had alot to do with it not getting cool enough ... all in all we enjoyed the viewe this cabin has an the convenience to all the stores ..dont forget to bring chairs it only has one to sit in on the deck.. read more ...

These pictures are incorrect, this house is dirty and is only a good party house for a bunch of kids. The furniture is dirty and uncomfortable. The kitchen is huge but poorly equipped. We stayed here last year when it was Mabel's. It is a nice open concept, but needs some work. The kitchen cabinets where coming apart. The kitchen table and chairs were falling to pieces. The carpet and lanolium needs to be replaced throughout. When some one takes a shower it poors into the lower utility room. The upper floor area seemed very unstable in some areas. The utility room needs to be cleaned out (it was full of old blankets, pillows and other misc itmes). There was an old van parked with high grass all under it. The slab was very nice though and the beach view was not too bad. It seemed closer than a 3rd row spot. The walk to the beach was not too far. read more ...

We rented this cabin last year. It was in such poor shape, we immediately called Swedes and switched to another cabin. The whole cabin was in need of scrubbing. The carpet is very stained, old and had fleas. The twin mattresses on the beds near the kitchen we very stained and worn out. It was hot. The hot water heater had been leaking downstairs and had all the parking area soaked. Mesquitos were very bad because of the water from the hot water heater and the Dune's which covered the whole view from the porch. You could only see way out into the Gulf and car tops. read more ...

This is a fabulous cabin! We come to the beach often but usually rent beachfront. However, we will definitely stay here again. Watching the ducks and turtles was just as entertaining as being on the beachfront. This is a very nice cabin with all the amenities anyone needs.  read more ...

We rented from 6/20 to 6/26 and loved every minute of the house and the beach front! The only downfall to our week at the house was the fact the dryer doesn't work... we lost about $200 in clothes due to the dryer taking chunks out of or leaving burned marks on our clothes without drying them! The dryer made very loud noises! It probably wouldn't hurt to exterminate for ants and water bugs! (Not bad, but we were surprised a couple of times!) The house definitely has tons of character and welcomes all those that enter! We'd love to stay at the house again! Thanks!!!!! read more ...

We stayed here the week of June 23, 2008. Great location and view..probably won't find one any better. The house desperately needs some work. Shower was disgusting and bathroom door wouldn't shut. Many lights not burning. Some electrical outlets not working. Lights blink off and on in kitchen. Plaster is coming off the ceiling. Sliding door has lost seal. We stayed here from 6/27-6/29 and everyone seemed to love it! The pictures you see above are misleading... because when you step in you'll notice how NICE it actually is! I took the last person's advise and turned on the water heater 1st thing when we arrived. There is no washer or dryer, but everything was great, you wake up and look out the window to see the ocean. There is plenty of silverware, but we did bring napkins, toilet paper, and trash bags. The AC was working well, there's satellite, house is equipped with 1 TV, a stereo, VCR, and maybe a DVD player, coffe maker, blender, pots, pans, plates, drinking cups, stove was working but the oven started acting up. The ladies at Swede's were nice too. At night we got to see a lot of fireworks, there's a small convenient store a minute's drive away and a bigger grocery store down the road from the neighborhood. We are sorry to hear the house didn’t meet your expectations. We have owned the house for a little over two years and our goal is to provide an economical vacation rental for families to enjoy and make memories when we can’t use the house ourselves, which I think we have with a rate of $117 dollars per day for a beachfront summer rental that sleeps 8. We have only received positive feedback and comments. Swedes contacted me Friday about the ants. Since we had never had any problems like this before and Swedes manager could not find many ants on her visit, I made plans to come down Sunday. I arrived about an hour after you checked out and I spent the night and didn’t see any signs of ants in the house. I did find a bag of garbage in the downstairs room with the washer and dryer that had some ants around it? We have had the same cleaning person clean the house after ever rental. I met with her Sunday and she hasn’t seen any signs of ants or bugs in the two years she has been cleaning the house. I met with the exterminator Monday morning and had him exterminate the house and yard again even though he didn’t see any signs of any ants or bugs and the house had just been done recently. I am not aware of any water leak in the bathroom and it was dry during my visit? As to the A/C unit? There are a lot of beach houses with window units in Crystal Beach. This unit is sized for a house with 400 more square feet than Lazy Daze. If the doors are kept closed the house will cool to the mid 70’s. We have used this house a lot and the house has been booked the remainder of the time we haven’t used it in the summer and haven’t had any other problems. The A/C cooled fine Sunday during my stay. I actually had to turn it down to medium cool and turned the temp down but I was there by myself and was not going in and out the door a lot? Thanks for your feedback

This place is a great "open concept" house. It has a cleaning sink so it is a good place for fishermen. The A/C works good, the appliances are practically brand new. We rented Kings Kastle for the weekend of 6-20-08..awesome house...had a couple small problems upon arriving, the washer and dryer had gone out and we were told we would have a new one before Sunday but we never got one..tv in one of the bedrooms didnt work and both chairs in the living room were broken..but we mananged fine. Best bed I have ever slept in and the a/c will freeze you out. Had an awesome time. There were 6 adults and 5 kids under 10 and we had plenty room..Can't wait until next year to do it again.. read more ...

No, there were not any fleas. It was however a little smelly in the laundry room. I had brought lysol and some plug-ins and that seemed to take care of the problem.

I would suggest to bring along a frying pan, there is one, but pretty worn.

We left kites (3) as well as buckets and shovels (3) as we ran out of room on the way home. There are plenty of lawn chairs, blankets and pillows, so need to bring them.

Well I guess it served its purpose. The house is old and needs much repair, the dryer doesn't work, the back toilet doesn't work, there is a water leak that drains under the house, if you go barefoot on the deck you will more than likely get splinters. The so called screened in back porch is missing most of the screen, the lawn chair are mostly broken and the sliding glass door is very hard to open and close. The entire house moves if anyone walks around. The house had not been cleaned there was food in the ice box and in the trash can, and there was no place to put out the trash for pickup. The view is beautiful however but that is the only plus to this house. We even found beer cans in the futon, very untidy. We even had trouble getting in and out of the driveway because it is nothing but deep sand. We won't be renting this place ever again, I hope Swedes has more to offer next year. read more ...

Just got home from a week of bliss! This house is awesome. Our first time to rent a cabin and we are now hooked. This house has a great view of the beach. The shower below was a bonus. Never seemed to have sand in the house. House is furnished very well only thing I would suggest bringing from home is a big bowl or two and a cutting board if needed. Did not notice ANY fleas in the house. Inside was very open which was great. The mattresses are a bit out dated and uncomfortable. Would recommend this cabin to anyone. read more ...

stayed here and no problems with fleas. however the sofa bed did not work so really only slept 5 comfortably. very small house. great views however and very close to drive onto beach. also no light under house so no grilling after dark. read more ...

This is an older house with a large, open floorplan. Reminded us of a bunkhouse. The furniture is old and the house has a musty smell. However, everything is in working order and we enjoyed our stay. The kitchen is well-equipped; the refrigerator has an ice-maker, and there is a full-sized washer and dryer. There are 3 TV's. The new deck extension is very nice. Just stayed in Sugar Shack June 20-27th. We always stay in Galveston, but thought we would try out Bolivar. The house was disappointing. The beds are not as they appear. In one bedroom there is a double bed connected to the bath, not a queen. In the other bedroom is a bunk bed with a twin on top and a double on the bottom, again not a queen as advertised? This was very disappointing since we made our decision based on bed sizes. Even the inside photos of the bedrooms on Swede's website are wrong, along with the description. Renters take plenty of dishes and cooking utensils if you plan on cooking. Fortunately some recent work has been done on the deck and we had no problems with splinters. Another issue I had with the home is the cleanliness. The fridge needed to be wiped out, the windowsills had dust and dead bugs, the stovetop had old burned food down in the burners, and the drain in the bath tub was full of previous renter’s hair and such. When we left that house was cleaner than we found it. The house is in need of some updating, such as replacing tiled linoleum that has shifted. Also the second bath has a shower that is located behind the door into the bathroom. It is completely dark with no light fixture. The house also had 4-5 light bulbs out. The airconditioner could be increased in size, it doesn't seem to keep up with the demand. Swedes’ or owners please take better care of your houses; make sure that it's ready for renters. On a positive note Gilchrist is a great area of the island for a private get-away. The beach was beautiful and clean, with some great fishing and shelling. We looked at other homes during our stay on Bolivar, and will definitely return just not to this house. Hopefully advertising inaccurately is not something that occurs frequently. read more ...

Stayed here a week in june 08. Location is great. But very disappointed in inside of house. Infested with ants..not just a few. Had to remove all groceries from pantries and put in fridge so the ants would not devour them. Also, had water leak in bathroom which left carpet wet and nasty in an already hot and stinky bathroom. Felt like we were camping. House does not cool well as there is only one window unit on west side of the home. Might be okay in winter months but hot in summer. Deck and slab area a nice place to hang out tho. read more ...

We stayed here the week of June 13 - 22. It was Wonderful!!! The view is great. Access to the beach was perfect. The house is just what we like. We will stay here again next year. Thank you so much. One of the best vacations we have had in Crystal Beach.  read more ...

HI! Yes, it does have two bathrooms, one up and a new one downstairs with a shower only. Upstairs has tub and shower. Yes, the bedroom is a separate room with floor to ceiling walls, door, etc. and a separate entrance to the deck.

this is a very cute house. One complaint is there are NO lamps in the entire house. Sounds like not such a big thing until it becomes night time and you want to relax with a book in bed and you have the overhead light shining in your face. Or you want to watch a movie and the only light source is the very bright ceiling lights. Other than that, the beach access is easy and the house is nice. a good option. read more ...

This was a last minute rental! The location was great if you want to see the beach and the sunrise. The house is in desperate need of updating.( kinda reminds me of a frat house) It was clean,but bring all of your own things for the kitchen. The dryer never worked and the bedding and sofas were reallly gross. ( the full size temperpedic bed was great) and 2 of the kitchen chairs were broken. $500 and a garage sale would do wonders.

This month we added pots, pans, skillets, silverware to kitchen supplies. We replaced 2 twin beds upstairs and had carpet and all furniture upholstery professionally cleaned. Also added a new deck table and umbrella. Enjoy!
